A line of running stitch completely covered by tiny stitches laid across it, which gives a fine, smooth, slightly raised cord. Work it in 13 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

Step by stepКрок за кроком
- Cover the design line with running stitches, long on the front and short on the back. This is the padding.Укрийте лінію малюнка швом «уперед голку»: довгі стібки на лиці, короткі на вивороті. Це підкладка.
- Come up right beside the running stitch and go down on the other side of it, close in, so that the new stitch lies across it at a right angle.Виведіть голку впритул до стібка шва «уперед голку» й уведіть з іншого боку, так само близько, щоб новий стібок ліг через нього під прямим кутом.
- Bring the next stitch up right against the last on the same side, and carry on. Each stitch touches its neighbour, so no padding shows.Наступний стібок виведіть упритул до попереднього з того самого боку й ідіть далі. Кожен стібок торкається сусіднього, тож підкладки не видно.
Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- Stitches that lean instead of crossing at a right angle: the cord looks twisted and loses its crisp edge.Стібки нахиляються, а не перетинають лінію під прямим кутом: шнурок виглядає перекрученим і втрачає чіткий край.
- Long running stitches on the back: the padding then sits on the wrong side, so the front loses its height. Keep what shows on the back short.Довгі стібки на вивороті: тоді підкладка опиняється не з того боку, і лице втрачає висоту. На вивороті стібки мають бути короткими.
- Gaps between the stitches: the running stitch peeps through. On a curve, fan the stitches slightly, not the line.Просвіти між стібками: крізь них видно шов «уперед голку». На вигині трохи віялом розводьте стібки, а не лінію.
