Small squares of four parallel stitches, set like the dark squares of a chessboard, each covered by a large cross tied at its centre. Work it in 14 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

What it is used forЗастосування
An open, patterned filling for crewel shapes or counted cloth. There is also a pulled thread stitch of the same name, which is a different thing.

Step by stepКрок за кроком
- Make four upright stitches close together. They should be as long as the four of them are wide, so that the block is square.Зробіть поруч чотири прямі стібки. Їхня довжина має дорівнювати ширині всіх чотирьох разом, щоб блок був квадратний.
- Make the next square diagonally below the first, corner to corner, so that a space the size of a block stays empty beside it. Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- Blocks that are not square. The cross then leans and the chessboard rhythm is lost. Let the width set the length.Неквадратні блоки. Хрест тоді нахиляється, і ритм шахівниці зникає. Нехай ширина задає довжину.
