1. Tack both edges to a temporary backing to keep them parallel. The gap in the drawing is the space between them. Come up at the top of the right edge, cross the gap and go in from front to back on the left piece, a little lower. Bring the point out in the gap, under the edge of the cloth, with the thread lying beneath the point.Приметайте обидва краї до тимчасової основи, щоб вони лишалися паралельними. Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки

• Skipping the temporary backing: the gap narrows and widens and the zigzag goes uneven.Без тимчасової основи: проміжок то звужується, то розширюється, і зигзаг стає нерівним.
• Pulling tight: the two edges draw together and the air between them goes, which is the whole point of the insertion.Сильний натяг: краї сходяться, і повітря між ними зникає, а саме в ньому суть вставки.
