How to do Cretan stitchЯк вишивати критський стібок
A loop stitch that takes a short bite from the outer edge toward the middle, first on one side and then on the other, plaiting a spine down the centre. Work it in 5 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

Leaves and wide petals, because the width can change stitch by stitch. Close the stitches up and the shape is filled; space them out and it is a light band.

- Draw four lines: the two outer edges and, close together, the two sides of the centre spine. Come up at the top, between the spine lines. Go down on the left outer line and come up, straight across, on the left spine line, with the thread under the needle’s point.Нанесіть чотири лінії: два зовнішні краї й, близько одна від одної, дві сторони хребта посередині. Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- Bites of different lengths: the spine goes crooked. Keep to the two lines down the middle until your eye can hold them.«Ковтки» різної довжини: хребет іде криво. Тримайтеся двох ліній посередині, поки око саме не навчиться.
- Working the bite from the middle outward: that makes a different stitch with no plait. The needle always points in.Голка йде від середини назовні: це вже інший стібок, без плетива. Вістря завжди дивиться всередину.
