A French knot on a long tail: one straight line with a bead of thread at its end, made in one movement. Work it in 3 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

- Come up at the base of the stamen. Hold the thread out from the cloth and wrap it around the needle, twice, as for a French knot, a stitch’s length from the base.Виведіть голку біля основи тичинки. - Tip the needle over and go down where the knot will sit, keeping the thread snug so that the wraps slide down the needle to the cloth. Pull through slowly: the wraps close into a knot at the end of a straight tail.Нахиліть голку й уведіть там, де сидітиме вузлик, тримаючи нитку натягнутою, щоб витки сповзли голкою до тканини. Повільно протягніть: витки стягнуться у вузлик на кінці прямої ніжки.

Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- A slack thread as you go down: the tail droops and the wraps stay loose. Keep it snug until the needle is through.Нитка послаблена, коли голка йде вниз: ніжка провисає, витки не стягуються. Тримайте натяг, поки голка не пройде.
- Going down in the base hole’s direction by mistake, which folds the knot back onto the tail. Tip the needle outward.Голка нахилена до основи: вузлик загинається на ніжку. Нахиляйте її назовні.
