Straight stitches over two cells, offset by one — like bricks in a wall. The calmest ground there is, and the one that never steals attention from the motif. Work it in 8 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

- The first row: straight stitches over two cells, with one cell skipped between them.Перший ряд: прямі стібки через дві клітинки, між ними — одна клітинка пропуску.
- The second row drops into the gaps, offset by exactly half a stitch. That is the bond.Другий ряд лягає в пропуски, зсунутий рівно на половину стібка. Це і є «кладка».
- The third row lines up with the first again — from here it repeats two rows at a time.Третій ряд знову збігається з першим — далі все повторюється двома рядами.
Done. At the edges of a field the stitches stand half a step proud — as they should; the edge is squared off with shorter stitches.
