One stitch to each pleat with the thread always on the same side of the needle, so the row lies as a firm slanting rope. Work it in 8 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

The first row at the top of many panels: it holds the pleats firm and draws a clean line. Two rows with the thread on opposite sides make a little plait.

- Come up in the valley on the left of the first pleat. Work left to right, with the thread lying below the needle. Take the next pleat from right to left, a little way down its top, with the needle held level or with a slight upward slant.Виведіть голку в западині ліворуч від першої складки. - Switching the thread from one side of the needle to the other partway along: the rope changes direction and shows a kink. Keep it on one side all the way.
